VEVO YouTube Account Hacked

The YouTube account of the popular American multinational video hosting service, VEVO (Video Evolution), was recently targeted by hackers. This resulted in the title and thumbnail image of a number of high-profile videos from top celebrities like Chris Brown, Drake, Iggy Azalea, Adele and more being defaced. This includes the most-viewed YouTube video of all time - Luis Fonzi & Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” which disappeared from YouTube briefly after being defaced. At least one of the alleged hackers made a claim in a tweet from the account @ProsoxW3b that a script was used to alter these videos’ information.

YouTube wanted to make it clear that this was an isolated event and did not affect the company as a whole. Google (owner of YouTube) directed all inquiries directly to Vevo. A Vevo spokesperson made the following statement: “Vevo can confirm that a number of videos in its catalogue were subject to a security breach today, which has now been contained. We are working to reinstate all videos affected and our catalogue to be restored to full working order. We are continuing to investigate the source of the breach.” What do you think is to blame for these types of attacks?
